The Kutchu play mat was designed in 2013 by then-new mom Nathalie, who wanted a safe play mat for her son. She was disappointed when the only products on the market were either foam, vinyl, or textiles. She wasn't keen on foam and vinyl mats because of the potential hazards associated with toxic chemicals they can contain, and because of the environmental impact long-term, once it eventually got discarded in a landfill. Textile mats also weren't ideal as regular spills would require regular laundry (and no new mom wants to do more laundry!). The Kutchu play mat was created as a safe, non-toxic, and eco-friendly solution, made from biodegradable natural rubber. Spills can be wiped easily, and the mat can be rolled up and away when not in use.
Kutchu is based in Oakville, Ontario, Canada.
